The project had concerned the transformation from Productive Activities to Commercial Activities of a sub-sector of the Sicem site, in the locality Appalto di Soliera (Modena). The intervention had expected specifically the demolition and conversion of some buildings destined to productive activities in areas to commercial destination (a strengthening of the pre-existing commercial pole); and the construction or expansion of associated infrastructure works of urbanization. The whole area, overall, it was also affected by a reorganization of the routes and parking areas.
The manufacturing activities in the area covered by the transformation was in the textile, particularly in buildings completely demolished or converted they were staying offices, showrooms, spaces for the production of clothing, storage of raw materials and finished garments.
The remediation and demolition has therefore involved not so much production facilities, practically non-existent, but rather elements making up the main building with a floor area of about 5,600 square meters: prefabricated or built on site, roofing, plant and technological networks.
In this intervention have operated synergistically some divisions Garc.
Enviromental Services Division has performed preventive investigation that identified potential areas of risk, provided the information for an accurate estimate of the costs, and finally planned the operation comprising:
Safety Masures and Systems Reclamation
Demolition of Structures
Disposal of waste produced
Building Services Division was responsible for the demolition of the complex, before has been carried out an important operation of reclamation of the area, in particular of a structure with elements containing asbestos (roofing elements and foundation plinths). The removal and disposal of asbestos and other waste produced during the demolition were managed by the Environmental Services Division.
The construction and upgrading of infrastructure works, the reorganization of the routes and parking areas are also the work of Garc SpA.

Reference regulations for the management of waste in Italy is currently the Legislative Decree No. 152/2006 (c.c. Environmental Code). The Code provides that the waste management -strategic node in environmental protection- it is done according to European principles of precaution, prevention, proportionality, accountability and cooperation of the parties involved. In particular, the provision of the law indicates a priority scale with primary emphasis on the reduction of waste production, secondly reuse and reuse-recycling, and, below, the recovery of materials and energy. Final disposal of waste -in particular the landfill- should be considered a possible residual viable only if one of the above is not technically and economically feasible.
